Kitten Kong

Martin and I off to London for the ever-so-fancy-pants IPA Health Awards. I’m kilted up, they’ll never know what hit them. We’re up for a few awards with the Bebooks website but I’m not sure we’ll win. We’ll see. Free bar though, either way I can drown my sorrows or celebrate our win. I’ll let you knowhow it goes, probably through Twitter. And possible Flikr too. Ooooooo, look at me, aren’t I all oh-so Web2.0!!!!

Welcome to Scotland!

This goes out to all my friends from across the sea. When you came to visit the UK how did you plan your trip? Did you kow here you wanted to go, did you wait until you got here? On the ‘places to see’ list did you research it on the Internt or was it through the recommendation of friends and family? Did you visit any muesums/visitor attractions while here? If so, why and how did you know about them?

This is all info I’m looking for based on a wee project we’re working on at GRP. I’d love your insights. Love them.

Thanks you beautiful people.

Ding Dong!

Beauties and the Beast

GRP/biscuit away day on Friday to the ever so swanky Scotsman Hotel. I loved my room. It was a fantastic day, a wee treasure hunt in and around Edinburgh and then a meal with large glasses of wine. Then dancing. Then laughing. Then penthouses. Then bed. Then a great breakfast. Then home.
As always I was a bit of a wallflower, just kept myself to myself really. I would like to thank Pam and Claire for taking pity on me. And Steph too. And sorry to Julie for dropping her. I didn’t mean it. My bad.

A monopoly board. In a table! Whatever next, crazy!

The Flying Scotsman

Was lucky enough to go and see the film, “The Flying Scotsman” on Monday night at its premire in Edinburgh. It’s great movie. A really good story acted out brilliantly by a fantastic ensemble cast. It initially scared me as I thought it may be the kind of ‘working class guy triumphs over all’ kid of film such as ‘Full Monty’ and ‘On A Clear Day’ but this is so much better as it has the passion and ideas that the main character, Grahame Obree, comes from such a dark place but are so inventive and driven.

I am not ashamed to say that I was crying at the end.

A really good Scottish film that works for all. I do’t have star ratings but I’d go see it again. Read a wee bit more info about “The Flying Scotsman” at IMDB.

Had to sidestep the free bar at the party afterwards (damn it!) as I had an early flight to London. Got up at 4am and was dreading the flight and check-in after all the security troubles but it was all good, both my flights left on time and I suffered no delays at all.

Had a good time in London. Met our friends at 7th Floor to discuss a job we’re working on together and also a quick hello and catch up with the Mauritius Tourism and Promotion Authority.

Got the flight at 4.05 and was back in my house for 6. I was indeed the flying Scotsman. Ho Ho, see what I did there! The genius switch, it’s never off!

Island Life

Monday night I flew over to [TAG]Islay[/TAG] for a client meeting on the Tuesday. I went over to visit my dad too who also lives on the island.

The flight is only about 20 minutes from Glasgow and offers great views of Arran and the west coast of Scotland.

Port Askaig HotelMet me dad, went to the Lochside Hotel for a bite to eat then went over to the village my dad lives in, [TAG]Port Askaig[/TAG]. His local is the Port Askaig Hotel were I sampled the local produce, gained very, very interesting customer insight from the owner of the hotel, Marion, and was entertained no end of tales of derring do by the good Mr Murphy, the bar man with the best whisky patter I’ve ever heard. It was hilarious and ended up a late night. Of course it was all in the interest of invaluable customer insight.

JuraThe hotel has fantastic views of [TAG]Jura[/TAG], a place that I’ve never visited. My dad tells me that you can see the deer swim between Islay and Jura when ‘the season is right’. If the deer can visit then so can I but they seem to have an added incentive…
The next day I woke up and went off to meet Richard from [TAG]999 Design[/TAG] who are doing the branding and print for the job that we are involved with. As our meeting wasn’t until around 12.30 we spent some time in the airport and then off to [TAG]Laphroaig Distillery[/TAG] for our meeting.

The DistilleryThe weather was fantastic and the views from the distillery were wonderful. We spent some time in the mueseum and st in the sunshine taking life in. Not a bad day to earn a living. We saw the big wall that has ‘Laphroaig’ painted on it in bold, hugh letters then saw the more improvised sign scrawled in the caked muck of a truck. Perfect.

The WallThe Truck

The Long Walk

We had our meeting then wondered about, looking around and soaking up the sun. All very relaxing. The only place I could get a signal on my phone was at the end of a wee pier like structure and then trying to get into that signal sweet spot. It wasn’t bad, the fish were jumping and I could see them all swimming about in the clear sea water.
We all then went for a bite to eat then off to the airport to catch our flight back. A couple of beers in the sunshine, happy with our days ‘work’. A quick flight back with some more amazing scenery. Not a bad day, not a bad day at all.

GRP, One Point of Triola

Some news from our parent company, [TAG]GRP[/TAG] in [TAG]Glasgow[/TAG], who are forming an alliance with two other agencies, [TAG]Enten Associates[/TAG] in [TAG]Washington DC[/TAG] and [TAG]H&H Advertising[/TAG] based in [TAG]Reykjavik[/TAG] (I’ll get the link to H&H when I get back to the office). The name of this new alliance is Triola. A neat wee article from the Scotsman website explains all better than I could. Not sure how it’ll affect biscuitmedia yet, if it will at all, but its exciting nevertheless.

Cool Ecosse?

We’re doing a wee project at work just now about Scotland and its cool factor. Does it have cool, is it a good or bad thing to have cool and what makes a country cool? Is it the arts that make a place cool, the people, the ‘vibe’? What is the vibe? All this has come from our Executive (the Scottish parliment) announcing Scotland as the ‘best small country in the world‘. Although others could say different

Any thoughts?

Up, Up and Away

biscuitmedia’s friends at Amaranth Entertainment, purveyors of fine In-Flight Media, have moved to their swanky new offices at Penn Plaza.

They should be very proud of themselves. I remember Michelle’s birthday party in NY very well, still can’t face a strawberry diaquiri and I believe they still talk about my NY singing debut and how I graciously walked that lady to her cab. Oh yes.

Underneath Your Dream Lit Eyes

A sad day at Biscuitmedia, The Major, the Godfather of Code, the hardest working man in dot business, Big Al, is leaving to see the world. It’s a sad day for biscuitmedia, a great time for Allan. He’s going to be missed but he’s not leaving just going on a sabbatical. As such his blog will still be part of biscuitmedia’s and his entry is the ‘About’ section will be merely altered. Have fun Al, see you next year. We still have his Zen like presence here for a couple of months which gives me plenty of notice to plan his leaving week. Yup, that’s right, week.

So that means that we’re looking for a developer. Not just any developer, a developer who loves Glasgow, loves web design, loves being creative with code, loves learning, loves new things, loves old things, gets excited about the good stuff, gets even more excited about the old stuff.

Have a look around here, see what you think. You interested? Then have a look at the recruitment page, see if you have the things we need and send us your CV.

We love you all.
