Ashamed

Mind the Gap

Yes, its been a been a while and yes I am very ashamed. The reason is as boring as ever, work. Work has been crazy but it has been very, very cool. We’re doing some work I’m really proud of for Dunfermline Building Society and some fantastic, jaw dropping work that Beth did for a pitch that I can’t talk about. Yet.

I’m also working on Cosmopolitan magazine of all things looking into the murky world of social media. I’ve been loving it, it is so interesting though I do have to agree with the most wise Steve Rubel that all media is media is media, social or otherwise. I like his style.

Social networks though, that’s an interesting place. We had a chat today at work, the first of many great debates,  about social networks. It’s a selfish space, a place where people are nosy and all trying to find out about each other’s friends and acquaintances. It’s not a place that suits brand advertising unless it can help connect you. That’s the interesting part. How can brands connect you with people you care about? Do you want them to?

So. Social netorking. Lots and lots of places to do it. Who has the time to check all these feeds from Flickr, Facebook, Bebo, Digg, Mixx, Hi5, etc, etc, etc. It’s basically a hassle. I’ve been beta testing friendfeed for a while. It’s a website that brings all these strands together. I like it but I do feel that I’m getting overloaded with info and actually piling it all together is a real help but is too much. Also it doesn’t have an iPhone interface and one of the reasons that I’m blogging less is that my iPhone is really now where I spend most of my free knowledge time. I pick up tweets and do all of my RSS feeds from Google reader on the iPhone. It’s just easy.

The next debate at work is probably going to be about something on how advertising is dead. Online and offline. Is it?

Away Day

Happy

It really has been a great time to start work at Equator. Yesterday was the company’s away day and rather than the usual ra-ra-ra about targets and motivation and all that it was a good grounding in the company, its values and its principals. It was pretty inspirational stuff and I was delighted/relieved that the company had the same values as myslef.

The next few posts are goign to be about these values. Firstly because I think they spread across any company, not just a digital agency and secondly because I feel like I’ve taken these values or granted and I want to explore them a little.

Finally I’m going to be making some changes to the blog probably starting in the new year. Nothing too crazy, juts trying to get a focus on what I want to write and why I want to write. I enjoy writing, I find it a good way to clear the head but I need to put some focus on what I do here and why I do it. Going to do some work on that over the next couple of weeks but if you have any suggestions or ideas on what you want to see here please leave a message in the comments.

Happy Baby Jesus Day

Happy Baby Jesus Day

To celebrate the festive season the team at Equator created a cheeky wee sing song. Over the next wee while have a look at our little Christmas Celebration.

I’m giving a sort of 10 day review of my time at Equator on Sunday. It’s a great place, I really think that I’ve “come home”. Part of the reason is things like our little Christmas thing. I’ll write more on this later.

Happy, Happy

All going very well on day 1.5 in the big Equator house. Even getting used to being back on Windows again. Lots and lots to enjoy here but I think I can sum it up by getting you to look at the people I’m working with now. It’s very exciting to be working with a whole team of people who use the Internet and not just talk about it.

I’m loving being the new boy.

Happy Clown

So on the 19th November I start at Equator, an Internet marketing company based in Glasgow. My new role is Account Director which is a fancy pants way of saying ideas man for the clients that we have.

I’m really up for it, I’ve met a few of the people there and they all seem cool. It’s a new challenge, one that I’ve been looking for and I’m excited about the future.

All I’ve got to do know is get through my leaving night and my birthday. Oh liver, don’t fail me now!!!
