The election? Well no-one really won. The SNP got in with one seat and look that they are going to be in a minority government. This is very much unknown territory and it looks that the Liberals will hold the power in a number of key points given that they could decide to go either way depending on the issue.

It look highly unlikley that the SNP will get there vote on independence in this session of the parliament, I imagine that they are going to have to show the electorate that they can be a responsible party in power and hope for a larger majority in the next Scottish election. However given their minority government status it is going to be very, very difficult for them to push any major changes through. Well see.

Congrats to Kenny Gibson, an old client of ours, who became MSP for Cunninghame North.

  1. Thanks for the update, sweetie! The SNP is fascinating to me. I’d love to hear what the average Scot has to say on the subject. Independence is a huge step. Mind, there has been observable devolution going on for some time, but I don’t pretend to know how the SNP gets from here to there ideologically speaking, if you catch my drift.

Just guessing, but I’d bet that given full throttle, even, I doubt anything too radical would happen, like the creation of a standing military. Good possibility of political neutrality, which is actually pretty smart as far as that goes. And the socio-economic impact of a truly empowered SNP would be bound to cause a ripple or two. But since they’re minority, as you said, anything drastic probably won’t pop up. Still, Scotland is fascinating at this particular time in her history. But IMO, change, when it comes, is best when not in full speed ahead mode.

  3. Hey Stewart-
finally checking back in on the election info. I had misunderstood the results- I thought the SNP won enough seats to be the majority? But no? Obviously I still don’t get it, but I’m working on it- very interesting stuff.
